Well here I am back again writing.....The Hubby is actually away at the minute in Cannock Chase with the Nephew..(which I'm sure he'll tell you all about in great detail when he gets back!) so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to write a post without him being able to edit/delete it before anyone sees it!!!You probably wonder from the title what I'm going to write...well it's about how many bikes can one person possibly need!!
You see I'm curious to know whether 1 single person needs multiple bikes?? I am one person and i have one bike...it's not great but it works and gets me from A to B no problems. I don't need any more bikes...i can't ride more than one at a time...i was only born with two legs!!
Then there's my hubby....he is normal..(well as normal as he can be for him) was only born with two legs...yet he has three bikes...that's SIX pedals!!!!

Ok..i guess I kind of understand why he would have a full susser and a hardtail..( ok so I don't REALLY understand but i get that there's a difference) but why on earth does he need two hardtails??? He would probably comment on this and say he only bought a new one so the Nephew could have his old one but that is only part truth...I know no matter what he says he would have bought that second hardtail...and I know for a FACT that he would go and buy another bike tomorrow if i said."Here you go Babe..take a couple grand to spend on a bike."...Now you're probably thinking...well who wouldn't...but he would then just add this to the collection in the shed and not dispose of one of the older bikes. At the rate we are going on..we'll be the ones living in the shed as the bikes won't fit!!
So avid followers of this blog who are into mountain bikes...please give me some feedback and help me understand the necessity of having to own multiple bikes or if it is in fact just my Hubby who is becoming a grave collector of anything that has two wheels, two pedals and is expensive???

Maybe also help me understand a little about why you would need a hardatail and a full susser, I mean, at the end of the day we still rode bikes in the victorian times and then they were ridicuously strange and impractable..and yet it worked for us....are we just becoming soft in this technology driven world??
Any feedback would be appreciated.....I'm sure my hubby would be happy if you made me stop moaning at him too!!!
Maybe it's just a man thing!!
Let me know.

About me
This blog is all about my life… my life of mountain biking and ideas I’ve acquired through the years. As an average everyday mountain biker, the learning doesn’t stop. I try to feed my mind in my own little way by writing and promoting this blog. I would like to share what I have learned through this blog with you. Let this blog be an additional resource for your mountain bike needs, and maybe you'll find some much needed ideas you may not have given much thought to before.
My name is Paul Walton, an engineer slave and spare time mountain biker/blogger. Blogging about mountain bikes has become and undying passion, spending most weekends and afternoons on the internet blogging. As well as riding bikes, writing about it also is what I love to do.

Only 3!
I think he NEEDS a few more. He obviously need a 29ner MTB, A single speed MTB, a road bike or two. A cyclo-x bike might be nice aswell. Then there's always room for a cheap bike to ride to the pub on
I have about four bicycles at the moment and a potential for a couple more in parts . Not including the other halfs couple of bikes . Different bikes for different uses . You wouldnt get very far trying to cut a steak with a spoon and a knife wouldnt be very fun with soup . The full suss will be comfortable and less physically demanding over a day but boring and numb for a thrash in the woods . A hardtail is quick but unlikely to win a dh world cup but still offers a bit more relaxation than a rigid which gives more of a pure experience . An 8" travel bike wouldnt keep up very well with the local roadie club so a road bike is added to the collection . Or more often than not two road bikes , one for going quick and one for when its raining . Dont forget the bike that takes you to work , that one needs to be ugly enough not to get stolen but good enough as it gets used a lot , then theres the puncture 5mins before you head off in the morning so good to have two of these . How about a bike that you couldnt afford many years ago but now can , built with mostly NOS parts , inevitably its too nice to use often so another appears for more regular use . So really he has a lot of restraint only having a couple , i know plenty of people with upward of 10 .
Yea, I'd spend a couple of grand alright and get me a Trek remedy with all the bells and whistles! Or maybe get me something imported from the states!!! I have no interest in roadie riding, just not my thing! I just want a fun all rounder now with plenty of travel. Something that can give me some air time but climbs and handles really well..
What the hell is a '29ner MTB'??? and 'A cyclo-x bike'???
And for all of that you still only go from A to B on them so what's the real point?? It is just purely collectible fun ...right??? I suppose I should just be grateful that he has decided to go against a road bike..i guess that means we can keep the bikes down to about 8..(that is if he gets his way!!)
You've given excuses for having multiple bikes but, that seems to me all they are...there doesn't appear to be a 'NEED' for multiple bikes...and as for a bike imported from the states darling...Dream on Babe....:-P..lol
I guess it really is just a macho man thing!!!
It's not a man thing, it's just a biker thing - I'm not a man, and I have: a DH race bike (full suss), a trail bike (full suss), a jump hardtail, a single speed hardtail, and a road bike that was my bike messenger bike. Oh and an old retro 'pub' bike. I would also like a BMX...
The most fun thing about mountain biking is progressing your skills, and because different bikes have different skills associated with them, having a range of them to work with enables riders to develop more skills without simply having to constantly try to go faster or jump bigger on the same bike. Tanya, maybe you should try another bike too? Get a full suss and have a good ride, you'll see the difference! And don't just borrow your hubby's as-is, it'll be the wrong setup. But watch out, it can be addictive... you'll end up wanting multiple bikes too!
Hi Rita...Thanks for the comment. What you have written makes a lot more sense than all the jargon the guys have thrown at me...I get the need for different tools for different needs which is basically what you are saying..However i don't think the guys see it as much more than having another new shiny toy to play with..lol!!
As for me getting another bike?? I don't think so...much prefer to use my feet...if I was supposed to go around on wheels all the time then I would have been born with them!!!!!
