CRC finally got back to me after the weekend and said that the product could be returned for a full refund...whether the response would have been the same if there was no fault with the product I can't say for sure.

Re-ordered the helmet hero...this time from Evans as they had a sale on. We now have a camera with all the mounts in perfect working order. It cost just £99.99 (sale price down from £139.99)and arrived within 2 days.

Paul will no doubt take it out for a test ride and review it this weekend!!

this cam cost £99.99. there is now a newer model out but do make sure if you decide buy one you go for the helmet hero which starts at £139.99 for the older model going up to £189.99 for the new wider angled lense version.
